The former heating plant at Korkeakoski, which has now closed, used bark but also relied on fossile fuel for additional energy.
The company said the plant improves the sawmill’s efficiency and also ends transportation of fossil fuel waste woodstuffs, now burned on site.
UPM Korkeakoski produces redwood sawn timber from Finnish pine and has an annual capacity of around 300,000m3.
