UPM-Kymmene has given its support to a campaign to get 100 million trees planted by 2017.
The Finnish company has made a donation to ENO-Environment Online, the virtual school and network for sustainable development and environmental awareness, and its campaign to reach the target.
As part of the ENO programme, an annual global tree planting day has been held since 2004. Some 1,500 schools from around the world took part in 2008, pledging to plant 300,000 trees.
That total forms part of the United Nations Environment Programme’s Billion Tree Campaign, which aims to have seven billion trees planted by the end of 2009.
