The Seikku mill in Pori and Alholma sawmill in Pietarsaari will cut one working shift each during mid-May until the summer holidays and lay off personnel.
UPM reported “remarkably” weakened availability” of spruce logs and that high log prices were rendering spruce sawmilling unprofitable.
Seikku mill produces 350,000m3 of spruce sawn goods per year, while Alholma’s output totals 200,000m3.
