UPM-Kymmene Corporation has added its voice to that of the Finnish Forest Industries Federation in approving of the Finnish government’s plans regarding nuclear power plants.
However, it has stated reservations about other political decisions, namely that “the government’s package to support renewable energy production invokes serious concerns for the availability and price of wood biomass,” according to UPM’s president and chief executive officer, Jussi Pesonen.
“If the Finnish parliament makes a positive decision on TVQ’s [four nuclear power plant unit] application, the industry could invest billions of euros in competitive Finnish power generation,” he said.
“This would be necessary to develop new forest industry opportunities in Finland. The investment would also support UPM’s strategy to grow in low-emission energy production.”
