UPM has announced the closure of its Luumäki timber operations following negotiations on its future.
The Luumäki operation, which includes planing and the production of components for door and window manufacture, had been “unprofitable for a long time” according to UPM, with the competitiveness of the component products “weakened notably”.
UPM said that it will relocate the planing operations to other mills, while “actively seeking the possibilities to relocate the Luumäki personnel” – some 50 people.
UPM said operations will cease at Luumäki some time in 2008.
