A guide to the grading and quality of North American timber has been revised and updated by the Pacific Lumber Inspection Bureau for the first time since 1971.

The new edition of the Export R List Grading and Dressing rules is particularly aimed at sawmills and companies using timber in manufacturing, such as window frame makers.

The publication, available through American Softwoods, includes a new factory flitch grade for Douglas fir, hemlock and sikta spruce; grade rules for no. 4 clear western red cedar; and more clearly defined grade provisions for clear and merchantable grades.
