United Merchants plc (Unimer) has launched a new online ledger service allowing its members up-to-the-minute access to their accounts.

Using technology supplied by electronic data interchange specialist Atlas Products International, the system allows access to a full history of comments related to specific invoices and credit notes, and the provision to add new ones; the ability to view, download and print invoices and remittances; and the option to email important documents to any party involved in the transaction.

Unimer, the UK’s largest invoice clearing house and e-commerce conduit for the building products sector, has said the current financial turmoil will make demand for its services more accute.

“One of the key benefits of Unimer Online is the reduction in time that users need to wait to access copies of documents required to resolve queries or even to replace documents that might have got lost at branches or in the post,” said Steve Hopkins, Unimer’s IT manager.

“We believe that Unimer Online will provide nothing but benefits to all members, suppliers and Unimer accounts staff,” said managing director Howard Grant.

“This ‘community-based’ system will most certainly enhance the Unimer experience.”

Unimer added it plans to add further facilities to the online service following consultation with members and suppliers regarding their needs.
