Latvian UltraJoist licensee Kurekss SIA, which manufactures more than 90% of current UltraJoist production, saw its sales of the product grow by 300% in February, compared to a year ago. Kurekss’s sales doubled during 2005.

Aberdeen-based Malcolm Allan Housebuilders is using UltraJoist, developed by Glenalmond Timber Company in conjunction with Arch Timber Protection, on its Westgate development at Inverurie. Travis Perkins supplied the timber.

The project involves the blue-coloured UltraJoist being used for all construction timbers, including joists, studding and roofing components.

Malcolm Allen said: “The use of UltraJoist has dramatically reduced any snagging lists from our completed houses, eliminating problems such as squeaky floorboards, popping nails and cracks in ceiling finishes.”

The housebuilder has now used the product for nearly three years and says UltraJoist will remain a key component for all future projects.

Glenalmond is looking to add further licensees, all of which will be BRE certified.

UltraJoist products are kiln dried to an average moisture content of 12% and treated with an Arch biodegradable preservative to offer Hazard Class 1 & 2 protection and repel water.
