A draft revision of the UK Woodland Assurance Standard (UKWAS) has been released to stakeholders following nearly two years’ work.

The UKWAS steering group took stakeholders’ comments into account during the revision of the standard, which is used by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes to assess sustainable forest management in the UK .

Peter Wilson, UKWAS executive chairman, described the revision as a “long and difficult” process.

The steering group will meet again in January, when it will review comments received before allowing the revised text to be submitted to the FSC for endorsement.

The draft standard can be viewed at www.ukwas.org.uk/standard/review. Comments must be received by January 16.
