UKWoodchain (UKW) has called on companies in the timber industry to contribute to the organisation’s report to government on education and training in the sector.
The report, to be tabled in December, is the first of “five major reports that will set the framework for government investment in the sector’s education and training programmes for at least five years”, with UKW pointing out that the deadline for companies to contribute to the findings is only two weeks away.
The core data of the report is based on a “rigorous sampling proceedure” of 60 companies but, according to UKW, the more companies that submit data for the report, the more leverage the industry will have in negotiating investments with the government.
“The first report is intended to provide the grounds for deciding exactly what is needed to create a high-performing sector and how much government will contribute,” said Lucy March, research team leader for the report.
“Every company’s information is welcome but we intend to deliver the report on time, so time is getting short.”
The survey document will be available from the UKW website until 12 noon on November 26.
