The UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA) has created a committee to boost training and development in the industry.

The Construction Industry Training Committee, chaired by Dr Michael Benfield, will focus on the recruitment and skills advancement of tens of thousands of craftspeople, professionals and others employed by the 155 UKTFA members.

Dr Benfield, managing director of South Wales-based timber frame manufacturer Benfield ATT, said: “By helping our people to grow and develop their talents they will gain greater satisfaction from their work, produce finer buildings, generate more satisfied customers, become real wealth creators and leave a truly sustainable inheritance for future generations.”

The committee will also seek to educate construction industry professionals, such as site managers, architects and sales staff, in the application of timber frame. Key strategic aims include introducing modern apprenticeships and vocational timber frame courses.

Committee members include Laing Homes, JNC Timber Frame, James Carpentry, Oregon Timber and UKTFA chief executive Bryan Woodley.
