The two timber organisations are to invest around £250,000 in four special projects that will provide information and guidance on the market for zero carbon homes, reducing the risk of fire during construction, designing platform timber frame buildings up to seven storeys in height and on differential movement, in order to “convert builders to using more timber frame”.

“The UKTFA is focused on protecting and growing the [timber frame] market place,” said UKTFA chief executive Bryan Woodley.

“Our special projects will use our market knowledge and members’ expertise to increase confidence and quality of timber frame construction.”

The four special projects are to start in earnest in May 2008, with a range of publications, seminars and other communications activities.
