A restriction on the amount of non-processed timber exports has been proposed in the Ukraine.

The Ukranian Industrial Policy Ministry said that last year the Ukraine exported around 1.8 billion m3 of timber – but the country has insufficient stocks of timber for its own needs and therefore has to import material.

Additional measures to develop forestry have also been proposed, as have procedures to ensure that any timber exported has documentation confirming its origins. The government has also been asked to take measures to step up safeguards to protect the domestic timber market and to examine the introduction of additional state controls on non-processed timber exports.
