The latest Forestry Commission (FC) national statistics show that almost half of the UK’s woodland is now certified as being sustainable and well managed, including all woodland managed by the FC and the Forest Service in Northern Ireland.
The statistics show that of the 2.84 million ha woodland area in the UK (12% of the UK’s surface area), 1.27 million ha, or 45% is certified.
In addition, the statistics reveal that 7,000ha of new woodland were created, mostly with broadleaved species and that 18,000ha of woodland were restocked, mostly with conifers.
