UK production of EPAL wooden pallets rose by 14% during 2009.

The growth follows a 22% increase during 2008 and brings the UK and Ireland’s annual production of EPAL pallets to 1.3 million.

And Paul Davidson, CEO of BREPAL (the UK & Ireland national committee for EPAL), said early indications suggested EPAL was continuing to enjoy the same growth trend during 2010.

He said the growth was due to several reasons, including customers wanting assurance about pallet quality, pricing and the impact on the environment.

BREPAL says that the financial cost of a pallet is not the only thing being taken into account in today’s market.

“The environmental costs are becoming increasingly important to customers,” it said. “Locally-produced EPAL pallets can help assessment of the environmental costs in three ways: reduced transport costs, traceability and carbon footprinting.”
