Vital information about the English forestry industry will be gathered in a nationwide mapping exercise, kicking off with a pilot project in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

The survey by Jakko Poyry Consulting, on behalf of the Forest Industries Partnership, has been launched at a challenging time for the industry which includes changing environmental and economic climates.

It will review business performance, growth strategies, supply chain issues and human resources. Results will feed into a report which is intended to help forestry, other associated industries and government develop strategic actions to remain competitive and sustainable.

The report will also update the England Forest Strategy and Regional Forest Frameworks.

Lantra, the skills sector council for the environmental and land-based sector, is to contribute to the skills part of the research.
