Forestry officials in Uganda have warned that the country is heading for a long term timber shortage.
Corruption in the forestry department has been blamed for existing plantations being stripped bare with no new trees being planted.
The warning has been sounded by an official of the Forest Resources Conservation and Management Programme which is calling for reform. It has earmarked forests for conservation and created a fund to support private tree planting.
