Timber agencies MCI Timply Ltd and UCM Timber (Specialities) Ltd are to be merged in order to “give a greater focus on delivering panels and added-value timber products to customers”.

The new company will take the name UCM Timber (Specialities) Ltd, while retaining both sets of staff and both offices in Cheshire and Hertfordshire. It will come into being on November 1.

Parent company UCM Timber plc said the benefits of merging the two were “increasingly obvious”, with new products being brought to market by both.

“We want to give greater focus to the mainstream and specialist panels, doors and components we have access to in the group, especially with our Mercantile International operations in Singapore, Malaysia and China,” said UCM Timber group managing director Mark Plews.

“We are bringing a steady stream of new products to market through both companies and the synergies were increasingly obvious.”

Martyn Whybrow has been appointed managing director of the merged company, with Gary Mitchell becoming sales director. Mike Cater and Nigel King have been named as directors.
