UCM Timber plc has acquired Sevenoaks-based Balfour Timber Ltd and its subsidiary in Goole, Hollanden Timber Ltd, for an undisclosed sum.

UCM managing director Mark Plews said Balfour and Hollanden both had strong reputations and “excellent” supplier and customer relationships which fitted well with UCM’s values and goals.

Mr Plews said UCM’s priority was to expand its international activity, but the opportunity to acquire Balfour and Hollanden was “too good to miss”.

Balfour and Hollanden will continue to operate with existing staff and premises but have access to UCM’s group facilities and international network.

Balfour has agency agreements for a wide range of plywoods and softwoods, while Hollanden specialises in Russian softwood imports with additional sales coming from Scandinavia. Hollanden will join forces with UCM’s specialist Russian operation, Churchill & Sim Group Ltd.
