The incidents happened within a week of each other.

In the first on May 18, a 63-year-old man was airlifted to hospital with crush injuries after becoming trapped under a log-cutting machine that fell on him. He was freed by a colleague and has since been discharged from hospital.

Another worker suffered back injuries when he fell 20ft into a water tower.

A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive said: “The HSE is aware of both incidents and is awaiting more information to come in before it makes any decision.”

An Egger spokesperson added: “We can confirm that an experienced employee in the wood-processing section was involved in an incident and was taken to hospital for treatment. Any incident of this kind is a major concern for the company and we have launched an investigation.”
