Inverness-based Tulloch Timber Systems Ltd has closed, adding to the growing number of timber-based businesses affected by the construction slowdown.
Parent company Tulloch Homes Group said its timber kit facility had not been immune to the ongoing issues in the housing market and that “much larger firms than ours have been seriously affected”.
It added it has entered a seven-day consultation period with the 13 staff at its timber kit facility,
“Though we naturally regret the loss of jobs, it is an inevitable consequence of the extremely challenging environment in which all housebuilders find themselves,” said a spokesman for Tulloch Homes Group.
“The national sales slowdown caused by the credit crunch, which makes it so difficult for homebuyers to complete funding packages, has so far cost over 20,000 housing jobs in the UK.”
Last week, TTJ reported on the closure of Goodwins Timber Frame and Covers Timber Structures, and job losses at John Brash and Oregon Timber Frame also made the headlines recently.
