The Timber Trade Federation is warning importers that plywood with a poplar core cannot be declared under the duty free Coniferous Plywood Quota (CPQ).

Announcing that the CPQ for 2010 remains unchanged at 650,000m³, the TTF is advising importers that Chinese pine-faced plywood with a poplar core must be declared under the Customs Code 4412 39 00 90.

“Members are reminded false declarations would be a criminal offence and should ensure forwarding agents, working on their behalf, declare goods in the correct category,” warns the TTF.

Coniferous plywood imported within the quota is duty free but then rises to 7% after the quota is taken up.

The duty on deposit scheme also remains unchanged and will apply when the quota goes below the 100,000m³ level.

Shipments qualifying under the quota must have the 4412 39 00 10 Customs code and be greater than 8.5mm thickness or, if sanded, more than 18.5mm.
