The Timber Trade Federation has been briefing members on the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) to be launched next April as part of government plans to slash greenhouse gas emissions.

“CRC will affect all TTF members who have half-hourly meters (HHMs) to record their energy use,” the TTF said.

Those with HHMs will shortly be sent a qualification pack by the scheme administrator with which to calculate total energy consumption that determines participation in the scheme. Registration is required in April for less than 3,000MWh and up to 5,999MWh requires registration and an account of energy usage. Use of 6,000MWh and above requires a registration payment, a full consumption and emission report and the requirement to buy carbon allowances of £12 per tonne to cover carbon emitted.

“Given the costs and complexities of CRC, further updates will be provided by the TTF in the coming months,” the TTF said.
