Its links with Benevolence Today is helping the Timber Trades’ Benevolent Society (TTBS) get money to beneficiaries.
Launched last year, Benevolence Today is an affiliation of 34 benevolent bodies that fund its work through donation.
The organisation’s aim was explained by head of marketing and development Susanne Kendler at the TTBS annual general meeting last week.
“It’s difficult to make direct contact with the people benevolent societies exist to help,” said Ms Kendler. “Our role is to liaise with health care providers, local authorities, charities and other organisations, like the Citizens Advice Bureau. We signpost the benevolent charities, so when they come across people who might need help, they can put them in touch with the right organisation.”
“Because of the way the timber industry has developed, it is easy to lose track of former employees who might need our support,” said TTBS president Richard Bagnall. “Since linking with Benevolence Today we have seen an upturn in the number of people we’re helping.”
