Tsar Timber Distribution Ltd has opened its second timber importing terminal and sales office in the UK at the Port of Shoreham.
The company, which already has an office at Goole, East Yorkshire, says the move will give it better access to Greater London and southern sawn timber markets.
The sales office will be run by Sam Carmichael who has moved from the Goole office, and the company expects to import 20,000-25,000m3 of Russian redwood and whitewood to Shoreham during the first year.
The first two vessels have already arrived at Shoreham – one from Arkhangel and one from Kem, giving a total stock holding of 2,500m3.
Tsar Timber will continue its yearly volume of 65,000–70,000m3 of sawn timber from Arkhangel, Karelia, the Urals and Siberia through the Goole terminal.
