A little-known tree grown in the tropics is being hailed as part of the solution to the dwindling global supplies of crude oil.
Planted one thousand to an acre, jatropha trees can produce a litre of oil in a year which has already been used to power diesel transport and has successfully completed trials in an Air New Zealand jumbo jet.
UK company Onyxworld is enabling small investors to buy jatropha trees in locations round the tropics. It says a five-year investment of £10,000 could generate a return of 29.5% a year.
