There were triple celebrations at Timbmet last week – it was the company’s 60th anniversary, its £3m offices and £2m IT investment were officially opened and chairman Dan Kemp will be 80 this year.

Timbmet’s corporate video was premiered and sales director Jeremy Bristoe explained that the future of the £90m turnover company will be built on technology.

Chief executive Simon Fineman said the company has grown up on hardwoods which will remain at the centre of the business. However, he said, the hardwoods market place is shrinking, prompting Timbmet to move into different domains.

Flooring, doors and door kits and machining already feature and Mr Fineman said a new acquisition in Nottingham will help build up the panels business for which the company has great hopes.

IT is at the heart of Timbmet’s strategy, along with a new timber measuring and bar coding system which Timbmet believes will re-shape the hardwoods market within the next five years..

Dr Evan Harris, MP for Oxford, said the new office shows a long term commitment to the site adding: ‘Oxford needs industry of this sort.’

Dr Harris additionally unveiled a bust of Dan Kemp, pointing out that the Timbmet chairman had also just become the first ever recipient of a TTF Lifetime Achievement award.
