The Forestry Commission Newlands programme and The Mersey Forest have joined with others to provide Christmas trees to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Six 3m Norwegian spruce trees and two 4m maple trees will form Green Spot, a mini forest designed to provide a relaxing walkway into the Liverpool hospital for patients and visitors.

They will be placed in planters displaying patients’ poetry about trees and the natural environment at Christmas. It is hoped Green Spot will also help improve patient health and surgery recovery times.

Green Spot was originally installed outside the Bluecoat Gallery in August as a demonstration of the nation’s trees and woodlands.
