Trees and timber employers in Wales will benefit from the award of a new five-year Sector Skills Council licence to Lantra.

The award, which will enable the organisation to improve skills across the forestry and timber industries, has been welcomed by the Welsh Assembly’s education and lifelong learning minister Jane Davidson AM.

Together with employers and industry representatives from Wales’ environmental and land-based industries, she celebrated the award at the Millennium Stadium on September 15.

The event follows the handover of the licence to Lantra by UK secretary of state for education and skills Charles Clarke MP in June (TTJ August 7/14).

Lantra is licensed to drive forward news skills, training and business development in 17 industries, including production horticulture and the trees and timber sector.
