Oak timbers sourced from Lord Nelson’s famous flagship HMS Victory have been used to produce stamps commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar.

Powdered wood was applied to the surface of the stamps, which depict HMS Victory, via an advanced printing technique.

Nigel Fordham, Crown Agents Stamp Bureau consultant, bought 50kg of the oak following the ship’s refit at Portsmouth.

The stamps are to be sold in 12 countries, starting with several UK Overseas Territories.
