Builders took just one week to construct a new village school in Colmonell, South Ayrshire, using TRADIS closed panels featuring Masonite I-joists.

Architect ARPL said it chose TRADIS as the build solution to satisfy client South Ayrshire Council’s brief to design and construct a school which achieves a BREEAM “excellent” rating.

The wall panel achieved a U-value of 0.16W/m²K using Warmcel recycled newspaper insulation. The TRADIS panels contributed to achieving greater airtightness and reduced site time, with the entire external envelope of the 600m² school being erected in a week.

Panels for the school were fabricated by Cumbria-based Eden Frame for main contractor Ashleigh (Scotland) Ltd.

“The Masonite Beams enabled us to achieve a thicker wall construction whilst minimising both the extent of timber used and the thermal transmittance of the studs,” said Stewart Glendinning of ARPL Architects.
