An 80-year-old timber industry member has appeared on BBC 1 – in his guise as an Elvis impersonator.

Pat Johnson appeared on the One Show on August 16 as part of the commemorations for the American singer who died 30 years ago.

“It was good, clean fun as they say, and kept me off the streets,” said Mr Johnson.

Mr Johnson, who joined the timber industry in 1943 and continues to have a presence through Softwood Import Services Ltd, added that he has been impersonating Elvis for around eight years and got into it because he likes the music.

His appearance on the One Show was also part of an attempt to set a new record to perform 30 live Elvis hits in different venues across the UK in 24 hours.
