Interbuild 2007 is to stage an Eco Products Showcase that will feature a series of seminars on environmentally friendly construction, including energy conservation, resource management and sustainability and has been launched alongside a revamped Interbuild logo, which has been coloured green to give it an eco vibe.

And Glee, the annual European garden, pet and leisure show, has launched the Going Green initiative that will allow companies demonstrating a commitment to sourcing and using sustainable timber in their goods to display a logo that will allow consumers to spot an “eco-friendly buying opportunity”.

Going Green has received the backing of Finnforest UK, with channel marketing manager Marcus Saunders saying: “There is a real onus on retailers to ensure that they are partnering with suppliers of environmentally sound timber products.”

And Interbuild director Gordon Thomas has reiterated this view, saying that the same issues apply to the building trade.

“Sustainability issues increasingly affect all aspects of building, from house extensions to office blocks and warehouses,” said Mr Thomas.

“Our aim is to make sustainability accessible for all professionals working within the trade.”
