A pilot project starting in October will deliver half-day training sessions at six venues throughout the UK. Topics will include introduction to softwoods and an introduction to panel products.
TRADA said it had identified a need for practical, time- and cost-effective sessions on selected timber topics. Aimed at merchants, the timber industry and contractors, the sessions will be interactive, with practical examples.
Rupert Scott, TRADA’s membership & marketing manager, said existing online training packages were useful because pressure on people’s time, but they didn’t enthuse people to want to learn more.
“This new initiative is a back-to-basics approach, using knowledgeable speakers who can really engage with their audience.”
Training costs, often a prohibitive factor for some companies, have also been tackled with TRADA’s pilot sessions to cost only £99 for a half-day course.
The pilot programme will last until March 2014, with dates and venues to be published shortly.
“There’s no doubt that knowledge helps people to sell: this initiative is designed to help deliver that knowledge in a practical way that attendees can take back to the workplace,” said Mr Scott.
