The judges will be looking for projects that demonstrate inspiring use of timber within any type of structure, including restoration and conservation of buildings, and also non-buildings, such as bridges.

The previous competition was won by a team from the University of Bath for its new stand design at Bath Rugby Club that featured a spectacular lamella roof structure.

The competition is open to students in both engineering and architecture. TRADA said a submission could be a final-year thesis or design project already under way as part of course work. Any student can take part, but entries have to include consideration of Eurocode 0, 1 and 5.

Closing date for entries is May 25 and winners will be notified on July 27. The runner-up will receive £500.
