Specifiers and construction professionals will be able to access information about timber on their iPhones thanks to a new app developed by TRADA Technology.
The app, which can also be used on iPod touch and iPad devices, is derived from TRADA’s online timber species database.
Users can search for timber by common name, availability, durability, use class, colour, density or movement characteristics.
They can also find out more about appearance, workability, environmental credentials and other factors which will influence their choice for construction of furniture design.
The app, being launched at Timber Expo, links to TRADA’s online directory of member suppliers of hardwood and softwood species.
The downloadable package includes a free application featuring 40 commonly-used wood species and a paid-for application featuring 140 wood species, priced at £4.99.
A similar application for Android Smartphone users is likely to follow in 2012.
