Independent testing by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) has resulted in Trus Joist‘s TJI joists meeting new requirements for intermediate floors in amended Part E (Resistance to the Passage of Sound) of the Building Regulations.

The BRE testing of TJI joists at 600mm centres in conjunction with WeatherDek 2 board found the system met the 40dB sound reduction required in Part E for both nailed decks and fast-fix (glued) deck installations with a standard 15mm wallboard ceiling.

Trus Joist, of Birmingham, said the successful test was good news for housebuilders who had expected to need extra sound insulating materials in intermediate floors to meet Part E.
