iLevel Trus Joist distributor Truss Form, of Rossendale, supplied TJI joists to the Wyder Honda showroom.

According to iLevel Trus Joist, the contract was an example of how rising steel prices and growing concerns about the environmental impact of both steel and concrete were leading architects and specifiers to choose engineered wood in commercial/office developments.

TJI joists, decked with a 38mm mezzanine flooring supplied by Puhos Board UK, were used for the ground and first floors, covering a combined 363m2.

The lighter engineered wood floors meant 40m3 less concrete was used in the foundations and a reduced amount of earth had to be removed. Steel content was reduced by 11.5 tonnes.

iLevel Trus Joist said these factors, combined with the TJI joists’ quick installation and in-use flexibility, meant engineered wood was less expensive than the normal steel girder/pre-cast concrete plank solution used in such developments.
