Timcon, the pallet and packaging industry organisation, has appointed a new secretariat and technical advisor as part of its strategy to improve services and boost membership.

Last year Timcon commissioned Atkins Wheeler to undertake the most comprehensive survey of its members ever. The aim was to find out how they wanted it to develop and the new appointments are part of the outcome.

‘The verdict of members was that Timcon was generally doing a splendid job, but that our emphasis should be even more on communication and keeping them informed of developments in the UK and abroad that will affect their business,’ said president Paul Davidson.

Mr Davidson expressed thanks to EC Skelding, which has acted as Timcon secretariat for 25 years. But he said that the appointment of London-based Spencer-Bolland Associates to the role was ‘key’ as the organisation seeks to ‘strengthen its leading position in the market’.

Arthur Spencer-Bolland, who has a ‘lifetime’s experience in trade association work’, said he saw his role as continuing to raise Timcon’s profile and keeping members updated on ‘changes on the business scene’.

‘Besides the very important developments in technical standards, it is also incumbent on Timcon to keep members abreast of important changes in everything from employment to health and safety regulations,’ said Mr Spencer-Bolland.

He added that increasing Timcon’s membership, which has already risen by 17% in the past six months, would be another of his priorities.

Timcon’s newly appointed technical advisor is the organisation’s former president and international pallet industry expert John Mead. His role will be to advise on the evolution and implementation of new European and international standards.
