The deal, which is expected to be completed shortly, involves the purchase of Atkins & Cripps’ two main locations near Ely and Saltash from the company’s US owner Coastal Lumber.

The purchase is also expected to include subsidiary J Bland & Co, based at Liversedge, West Yorkshire.

Timbmet Silverman‘s group chief executive Simon Fineman has made no secret of his view that the UK hardwood trade will continue to consolidate.

“As hardwoods is the core of our business, we will be at the forefront of the process of consolidation,” he said.
