A dedicated training package developed in conjunction with the Institute of Wood Science (IWSc) has put Timbmet at the forefront of hardwoods training in the UK.

Eleven Timbmet staff have already completed the pilot course with the aim of making it accessible to any employee working in the timber industry.

The initiative builds on the new IWSc foundation course and Timbmet has worked alongside the IWSc to introduce the hardwoods element. The course is in six parts and includes an introduction to timber, sections on panel products, machining and environmental issues and hardwoods.

Course tutor Jim Coulson said the course helped to generate a better understanding of wood as a material and how it should be used in the market.
