The timber industry has pulled together to supply wood products for a self-build project being featured in a new 15-part television series.

Donaldson Timber Engineering, UPM, Taylor Maxwell, SCA Timber Supply, Panel Agency, Arbordeck and Timbmet are among the companies who have been involved in Ben and Wendy Tuxworth’s eco-friendly timber frame project near Cheltenham, which will appear in How to Build a House on TV channel Discovery Home & Leisure.

The Masonite beam house frame was supplied by Longfield-based Panel Agency, while glulam/LVL specialist AJK Laminated Beams provided sections for internal and external use.

Donaldson Timber Engineering, with help from Finnforest, supplied Kerto-S LVL beams for the entrance and mezzanine floors, while plywood sub flooring and joinery grade birch plywood for kitchen worktops were provided by UPM.

Other involvement included interior pine cladding and solid wood flooring from Taylor Maxwell; Velux timber roof windows; mouldings, skirtings and architraves from SCA Timber Supply; oak second-fix joinery, Timbmet; and oak and ash veneered internal doors by the STP Joinery Group.

More than 1,000m2 of Arbordeck decking, recommended by the Timber Decking Association, was used for the contemporary four-bedroom home, designed by Cheltenham-based architects Heath Avery.

wood. for good also gave technical assistance and product advice for the project.

Mr Tuxworth, strategy director at environmental consultancy Forum for the Future, chose timber frame for its environmental credentials and speed of erection.
