Timber handling volumes at several Baltic ports in 2002 were either up on the previous year or remained stable.

Handling of timber at Latvia’s largest port, Ventspils, totalled 410,000 tonnes, similar to 2001 levels. Meanwhile, at Liepaja, Latvia’s third largest port, timber throughput was up 9.1% to 774,800 tonnes.

In Estonia, Parnu ports handled a 1.93 million tonnes of good, about 2% more than the previous year. Round timber accounted for 920,920 tonnes; woodchips, 306,870 tonnes; sawn timber, 136,700 tonnes; and wood pellets 53,550 tonnes.

Freight passing through Paldiski South Port increased 25.6% to 1.82 million tonnes, of which timber accounted for 175,200 tonnes.
