Timber products presented a compelling eco-friendly case as Ecobuild, the UK’s largest building products event, kicked off this week.

The announcement by organiser International Business Events that timber represented the largest single group of exhibitors was clearly evident as both UK and foreign timber products firms made their pitches to architects and contractors.

Accsys Technologies plc unveiled the world’s first modified wood panel – Medite Tricoya – which represents a partnership between Accsys and Coillte Panel Products. The MDF panel was transformed using Accsys’ Accoya wood modification process and is designed to offer improved stability and durability characteristics to open up new panel applications outdoors.

Arch Timber Protection also unveiled its Keywood modified wood.

Howarth Timber Engineering had one of the single largest stands in the timber sector and showcased dozens of different types of timber frame wall panels and insulation options. “The key thing is we are trying to offer choice,” said managing director Roger Gale.

It also displayed its new Firebreak panel as a solution for offering more fire protection to timber frame structures during construction.

MiTek premiered its X-Rafter – a flexible pre-insulated roof cassette system using its Posi-Strut technology.

Meanwhile, manufacturers of wood-fibre insulation had a strong representation. Steico launched its Steicoprotect – a direct render system involving lime render applied direct to external wood fibre insulation – and rival manufacturer Pavatex saw its Diffutherm direct render system presented with a BBA certificate during the show.
