The ship was off Tanjung Tohor near Batu Pahat when the fire broke out. The vessel with seven crew had left the island of Karimun in Indonesia and was headed for Sungai Rambai in Malacca when the engine is believed to have overheated.

A barter trading vessel laden with timber had to be taken under tow after a fire in the engine room, The Star, in Malaysia has reported.
