Timber is being salvaged from areas of Arizona affected by the worst wildfire in the state’s history.
Sierra Pacific Industries, the state’s largest landowner, was one of two successful bidders to harvest trees caught in last summer’s blaze. The wood is being processed at the company’s sawmills at Sonora and Susanville.
The fire, caused by arson, damaged or destroyed some 469,000 acres in eastern Arizona.
Sierra Pacific says much of the wood is good quality and will be processed into select and industrial grade heavy timbers and framing lumber.
