Greenpeace co-founder Dr Patrick Moore is heading up a campaign encouraging people to make a declaration in support of developing the forestry and timber sectors as a means of protecting the environment.

In an e-mail video message sent out on the environmentalist-organised “Earth Day” Dr Moore said wood is the most environmentally friendly and abundant renewable material for building, pulp and paper manufacture.

The message then invited people to support his appeal to governments and other authorities around the world to back timber and forest sector development.

Within a few days of the e-mail going out, 3,000 people from across the globe had supported Dr Moore by replying to the e-mail and adding their names to his online petition. And the number is still growing daily.
