Timber’s place as a leading sustainable construction material has been showcased in the construction of a sustainable home at the Grand Designs Live exhibition in London.
Structural-grade plywood from Premier Forest Products and modified wood product Accoya, which was supplied by Sussex-based Westgate Joinery, have been used throughout the construction of The House That Kevin Built.
Some 235 sheets of UPM-Kymmene’s WISA-spruce plywood were used in structural elements of the house, while eight windows and two doors were constructed from Accoya.
The House That Kevin Built saw presenter Kevin McCloud build an environmentally-friendly structure in six days, including modern methods of construction and innovative products and materials. After completion, it will be dismantled and re-erected at the BRE Innovation Park in Watford.
