The UK timber products industry is experiencing a “positive upswing”, according to a report just released.

The “Timber Products” analysis of the top 1,000 companies in the sector, published by Stockton-based Plimsoll Publishing Ltd, reveals that 111 firms have seen year-on-year sales grow by more than 15%, while 134 businesses have doubled profits. Debts have halved at 174 companies.

David Pattison, Plimsoll senior analyst, said: “I am delighted that many companies are getting it right by addressing the issues that have constrained them for years. Profits are improving, sales are up and debt issues are being resolved.”

However, he said 160 firms have declining sales and 146 are loss-making.
