Trucks carrying an estimated 20,000 board ft of illegally harvested red and white lauan lumber and roundwood have been intercepted by officials in the Philippines.
According to the country’s Daily Star newspaper, police and personnel from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources also found 10 stumps of century-old trees on a site near Hinobaan in Negros Occidental.
The lumber had indications of having passed through forest rangers’ inspection and six rangers are now under investigation.
